Blackhouse Forest Estate is nestled in over 1,000 acres of breath taking, natural woodland, heather and hills of the Yarrow Valley in the Scottish Borders. With an abundance of indigenous flora and fauna, a stunning lochan and a fully sustainable off grid energy system it is available as an exclusive use wedding venue for up to 200 people.
The area is steeped in myth and legend and has contributed to the cultural and literary life of Scotland itself.
Just a mile from our Wedding Barn is the ruin of the Blackhouse Tower, originally dating to the 11th Century, once owned by the ferocious Black Douglas, loyal supporter of Robert the Bruce
The breath taking, natural beauty of Blackhouse Forest Estate is the closest thing to the fairy-tale setting any bride could wish for.
The focal point for the wedding party is the lovingly restored Barn; complete with drystone walls and panoramic windows. The Barn can seat 30 wedding guests for a wedding ceremony and a dinner with no need to rearrange the room in between, ideal for the current situation, or it can be extended by opening onto the beautiful veranda to accommodate up to 200 guests when the restrictions ease.
Our original croft house can sleep 8 guests in beautifully appointed accommodation, with bespoke furniture crafted locally from Blackhouse woodland sustainable timber. As with the rest of the estate, the croft house is fuelled by hydroelectric biomass, and water for the estate is taken from the hills. The renewable energy systems create an entirely self-sufficient retreat from the pace of everyday life.
